The Long Crisis

Watch Senator Harry Reid,(D-Nev) Majority Senate Leader, say straight out that paying US taxes to the IRS is voluntary. Just try saying that yourself to the IRS and see what happens. As unbelievable as that sounds the video offers proof that Senator Harry Reid thinks that America has a voluntary tax system.

The interviewer, Jan Helfeld of The Bottom Line, gives Senator Reid plenty of chances to modify his position. Nope, the good Senator only digs himself in deeper and looks frankly like an idiot by proclaiming that since the USA, unlike other countries, has plenty of “loopholes” that citizens can jump through on their tax returns, that we have a superior voluntary tax payment system.

Jan Helfeld makes the correct point that the US government forces citizens to pay taxes as there are serious consequences, enforced by law, if a taxpayer does not. Helfeld correctly further states that taxpayers are forced to pay taxes and then the government takes part of that money and redistributes it to citizens who are on welfare. Watch Harry Reid make a fool out of himself as he flatly states that this is not true, that American taxpayers pay taxes because they want to and that the government does not redistribute tax proceeds.

It is sad that the American form of government has declined to the point where denial of facts is a standard way of operating by our elected officials. As shown by Harry Reid even those in positions of powerful leadership in congress are in la la land and are so twisted that they do not, can not, think in a logical manner.

The principal of American Exceptionalism has become so ingrained in the Washington culture that rational thinking seems to be a thing of the past. Senator Reid is actually suggesting that our tax system is superior to that of other nations because it is voluntary. What nonsense.

With such dishonest “intellectuals” as Harry Reid in power in Washington I see little chance that American can reverse the steady decline towards third world nation status. We must have courageous, bold, smart, unselfish leadership in Washington in order to reverse course. Unfortunately, just as with money, the bad drives the good out. The result? You have the type of vicious, polarized, bought and paid for by special interest groups leadership, that is leading the nation to a first magnitude disaster.
