American Town Hall Meetings Focus on Death Panels

The Summer of 2009 will be looked upon by historians as the time when American style democracy seriously went off the tracks. When town hall meetings disintegrate into disorderly name calling, fear mongering, violent demonstrations largely populated by scared out of their minds senior American citizens and urged on by the likes of Rush Limbaugh and Glenn Beck you know that the social system is in a widespread breakdown of some sort along with the economy.

Sara Palin, who should be out of sight and out of mind by now based upon her qualifications as a quitter and a crazy person, has instead used her ill gotten fame to intensify the already explosive nature of the “Town Hells” by making up “death panels” and stating that they are part of the Obama healthcare reform package. In fact, the private insurance companies have for years in effect maintained their own in house death panels as they decide to cancel policies and limit or deny coverage to those who have the audacity to request that bills for medical expenses be paid by the insurance companies that they pay premiums to.

Don’t these stupid policyholders know that the actual payment of medical expenses will hurt the earnings of the insurance companies? To fully support American style profit is everything capitalism policy holders should simply forever pay insurance premiums without ever filing an insurance claim. Then there would be no need for insurance company death panels. It would be clear to everyone right from the start that when policyholders experience a major medical problem they would be completely on their own.

That way there would not be any real difference between the healthcare offered to 50 million Americans with no healthcare insurance and those who pay for insurance but have no benefits other than to pay premiums which entitles them to a nice card to carry in their billfolds. What a wonderful private industry heathcare for profit system for a developed nation. That is unless you had a medical problem and couldn’t afford to pay what could easily be a six figure bill for a hospital stay involving an operation.

Seriously, as Americans engage in shouting matches at town hall meetings all across American and feature made up Obama death panels as one of their main talking points one can only be depressed at what is likely to come. As the economy tanks the crazies and uncivilized seem to be gaining the upper hand. It is not too far of a leap to see that actual roving citizen death squads may soon replace the talk of death panels. Why waste time shouting at your opponents when you can just kill them?

What a fine example of American democracy in action we are holding up to the world. We are in the process of committing a mass national suicide. For many Americans a long depression will be indeed be a very nasty affair.
